Half-Kneeling Hip Flexor Stretch

The half-kneeling hip flexor stretch is a static stretch performed with one knee on the floor and the opposite foot forward. It primarily lengthens the hip flexors of the kneeling leg while encouraging controlled pelvic positioning. It can support hip mobility and may be useful as part of a warm-up or flexibility routine.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Start in a half-kneeling position with one knee on the floor and the opposite foot flat in front of you.
  2. Align your torso tall over your hips and gently brace your abdominal muscles.
  3. Tuck your pelvis slightly by contracting the glute of the kneeling leg.
  4. Keeping your torso upright, gently shift your hips forward until you feel a stretch at the front of the kneeling hip.
  5. Hold comfortably, then return to the starting position and repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the front foot flat and the front knee roughly stacked over the ankle.
  2. Use a small pelvic tuck rather than arching your lower back to create more range.
  3. Shift forward only until you feel a mild, steady stretch; do not force the position.
  4. Use a folded towel or pad under the kneeling knee if the floor is uncomfortable.
