A workout plan is useful only when it is easy to follow while you train. Between counting reps, checking the next exercise, timing your rest, and recording results, even a well-designed session can create unnecessary distractions.
Active Workout Mode in Smart Workout Diary brings these tasks into one focused flow. When you tap Start Workout on today’s plan, the app opens Coach Mode and guides you from the first set to the last.
Focus on the set in front of you
Instead of repeatedly scrolling through your workout plan, Coach Mode keeps the current task clearly visible. The screen shows the exercise, its main muscle group, your current set number, and the total number of sets for that exercise.
You can also see the elapsed workout time, how many planned sets you have completed, and your overall session progress. A preview of the next set helps you prepare without taking attention away from what you are doing now.
Record the workout you actually performed
A training plan gives you a target, but real workouts do not always go exactly as planned. Your energy, available equipment, and readiness can change from one session to another.
Before completing a set, Active Workout Mode lets you adjust the measurements supported by the exercise:
- Repetitions
- Weight
- Duration
- Distance
- Speed
- Rate of perceived exertion (RPE)
Weight, distance, and speed follow your preferred measurement units. When the set is finished, tap Complete Set. Smart Workout Diary saves the result, updates your progress, and moves you to the next unfinished set.
Rest without watching the clock
Recovery is part of the workout, so Active Workout Mode includes a rest timer directly in the training flow. After you complete a set, the planned rest interval begins automatically.
During recovery, you can see the remaining time, a visual progress indicator, and the set coming up next. If you need a little longer, add 15 seconds with one tap. If you are ready early, skip the remaining rest and continue.
The app also displays an exercise tip for the upcoming set, giving you a useful cue at the moment you are most likely to need it.
Keep track outside the app
With the required system permissions enabled, workout progress and rest information can remain available when Smart Workout Diary is not open on screen.
On supported iPhones, Live Activities can display the current workout state. On Android, ongoing workout notifications can show your progress and rest countdown. Rest alerts help you return to the next set without repeatedly checking the app.
If these permissions are disabled, Active Workout Mode and its timer still work normally while you are inside the app.
Continue without losing your progress
If you leave the app and return during the same day, Smart Workout Diary restores the active session and its running rest timer. You can continue from where you stopped instead of rebuilding the workout manually.
You can also stop a workout before completing the whole plan. Sets you already finished remain saved in your diary. Once the final planned set is complete, the session ends automatically and shows your workout summary.

Less administration, more attention
The purpose of Active Workout Mode is not to give you another screen to manage. It is to reduce the number of decisions and interruptions between sets.
Your current exercise, training values, progress, recovery time, and next step all stay together. You spend less time trying to remember where you are and create a more accurate record of what happened during the session.
Train according to how you feel
Your plan is a guide, not an obligation to ignore your body. Adjust the load, repetitions, or intensity when the original target does not match your readiness. Stop training if you experience sharp pain, dizziness, or other unusual symptoms, and seek professional advice when needed.
