Bodyweight Step-Up
Demonstration
Instructions
- Set up a stable platform: Use a step or bench that will not slide or tip. Choose a height that allows you to step up without losing control or sharply pinching at the hip.
- Take your starting position: Stand tall facing the platform with feet about hip-width apart. Place one entire foot flat on the platform, keeping the knee generally aligned with the toes.
- Step up: Press through the foot on the platform to stand on top. Keep your torso tall, brace your abdomen, and avoid pushing forcefully off the floor with the trailing leg.
- Finish under control: Stand fully upright on the platform with hips and knees extended, maintaining balance before beginning the descent.
- Step down slowly: Lower with control by bending the working knee and hip, then place the trailing foot softly on the floor. Keep the planted knee tracking in line with the toes.
- Repeat evenly: Complete the planned repetitions, then switch the lead leg. Stop or reduce the platform height if you cannot control the knee, balance, or descent.
