Bosu Squat

The Bosu Squat is a bodyweight squat performed while standing on the stable dome side of a Bosu balance trainer. It primarily trains the quadriceps and glutes while challenging balance, lower-body control, and core stability. It can support functional lower-body strength and coordination.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up the Bosu with its flat base on a level, non-slip floor and the dome facing upward.
  2. Step onto the center of the dome with feet about hip-width apart; take time to find a stable, balanced stance.
  3. Brace your core, keep your chest lifted, and hold your arms in front of you or out to the sides for balance.
  4. Lower into a squat by bending your hips and knees together, keeping your knees aligned with your toes and your weight distributed through both feet.
  5. Descend only as far as you can control without the knees collapsing inward, the heels lifting, or your balance shifting sharply.
  6. Press through your feet to stand tall, squeezing the glutes at the top, then reset your balance before the next repetition.

Technique tips

  1. Start shallow and increase squat depth only when you can remain steady throughout the repetition.
  2. Use a support if needed, such as a stable rail or wall nearby, while learning to step on and off the Bosu safely.
  3. Keep the movement slow; rushing reduces control and makes the balance demand unnecessarily high.
  4. Stop the set if you cannot keep your knees tracking over your toes or repeatedly lose balance.
