Cable Decline Bench Press

The cable decline bench press is a pressing exercise performed while lying on a decline bench between cable pulleys. It primarily trains the lower chest, with assistance from the triceps and front shoulders. The cables provide resistance throughout the pressing path and support chest and upper-body pushing strength.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set an adjustable bench to a decline angle and position it centered between two cable pulleys.
  2. Attach single handles, select a manageable resistance, and lie back securely with your feet anchored on the bench support.
  3. Hold a handle in each hand at chest level, with elbows bent and wrists neutral.
  4. Press the handles upward and toward each other until your arms are nearly straight, keeping your shoulders down and back.
  5. Slowly return the handles to the starting position under control, then finish by securing the handles before leaving the bench.

Technique tips

  1. Use a resistance that lets you control the return without the cable stack pulling your shoulders forward.
  2. Keep your shoulder blades gently retracted against the bench rather than rounding your shoulders at the top.
  3. Avoid forcefully locking the elbows; stop just short of lockout while maintaining control.
  4. Move both handles evenly and keep your feet firmly secured throughout the set.
