Cable Incline Bench Press

The cable incline bench press is a compound pressing exercise performed on an incline bench between cable pulleys. It primarily trains the upper chest while also involving the front shoulders and triceps. The cable resistance provides tension throughout the pressing path and supports upper-body pushing strength development.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set an adjustable bench to a moderate incline and position it centrally between two cable pulleys set near the bench height.
  2. Attach single handles, select a manageable load, and sit on the bench with your feet planted firmly on the floor.
  3. Hold a handle in each hand with your elbows bent and slightly below shoulder level; keep your shoulder blades gently drawn back and down.
  4. Press the handles upward and toward each other until your arms are nearly straight, keeping your wrists neutral.
  5. Lower the handles slowly and under control until you reach a comfortable chest stretch, then repeat.

Technique tips

  1. Use a bench angle that feels comfortable for your shoulders rather than setting it excessively steep.
  2. Keep your hips and upper back in contact with the bench instead of arching to move the load.
  3. Avoid letting the elbows flare directly out to the sides; keep them slightly angled toward your torso.
  4. Choose a load that allows a smooth, controlled return without the cable stack pulling you out of position.
