Cable Kneeling Rope Crunch

The cable kneeling rope crunch is a weighted abdominal exercise performed while kneeling in front of a high cable pulley with a rope attachment. Flexing the torso against the cable resistance primarily trains the abdominal muscles and supports core strength and trunk-control goals.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Attach a rope to a high cable pulley and select a manageable resistance.
  2. Face the pulley and kneel a short distance away, holding each end of the rope beside your head.
  3. Brace your abdomen, keep your hips over your knees, and begin with a tall, neutral torso.
  4. Keeping your hips relatively still, curl your rib cage down toward your thighs by flexing through your torso.
  5. Pause briefly, then return under control to the tall starting position without letting the weight stack slam.

Technique tips

  1. Use a load that lets you move through a controlled torso curl rather than pulling the rope down with your arms.
  2. Keep the rope near the sides of your head; your hands should hold the attachment, not drive the movement.
  3. Exhale as you curl down and avoid excessive arching of the lower back at the top.
  4. Place padding under your knees if the floor surface is uncomfortable.
