Cable Standing Biceps Curl

The cable standing biceps curl is an isolation exercise performed while standing and curling a cable handle toward the shoulders. It primarily trains the biceps through elbow flexion, with the cable providing continuous resistance. It supports upper-arm strength and controlled pulling mechanics.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set a cable pulley low and attach an appropriate straight-bar or paired-handle attachment.
  2. Stand upright facing the pulley, hold the attachment with an underhand grip, and begin with your arms extended.
  3. Keep your upper arms close to your sides and curl the handle toward your shoulders by bending your elbows.
  4. Pause briefly near the top without letting your elbows drift forward or your torso lean back.
  5. Lower the handle under control until your elbows are fully extended, then repeat.

Technique tips

  1. Choose a load that allows you to keep your torso still throughout the set.
  2. Keep your wrists neutral rather than bending them back as you curl.
  3. Use a smooth, controlled lowering phase instead of letting the weight stack pull your arms down.
  4. Adjust your stance or step slightly forward if needed to maintain steady cable tension at the bottom.
