Dumbbell Supinating Curl

The dumbbell supinating curl is an arm exercise in which the palm rotates upward as the dumbbell is curled. It primarily trains the biceps while also involving the forearm muscles that control the grip and rotation. It supports biceps strength and controlled elbow-flexion technique.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with a dumbbell at your side in one hand and your arm fully extended.
  2. Begin with a neutral grip, with your palm facing your thigh, and keep your elbow close to your torso.
  3. Curl the dumbbell upward by bending your elbow while gradually rotating your palm to face upward.
  4. Pause briefly when the dumbbell reaches near shoulder height without moving your elbow forward.
  5. Lower the dumbbell under control while rotating back to the neutral grip, then repeat on the other arm.

Technique tips

  1. Keep your upper arm still; avoid swinging the shoulder or using momentum from your torso.
  2. Rotate smoothly through the curl rather than turning the wrist abruptly at the top.
  3. Use a load that lets you control the lowering phase without bending your wrist backward.
  4. Keep your wrist in line with your forearm throughout the movement.
