Exercise Dome Push-Up

The exercise dome push-up is a bodyweight push-up performed with the hands supported on an unstable exercise dome. It primarily trains the chest while also challenging the triceps, shoulders, and core stability. It supports upper-body pushing strength, coordination, and control.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up the dome on a level, non-slip surface with its stable base on the floor, and make sure it will not slide.
  2. Place both hands on the center of the dome, about shoulder-width apart, then step your feet back into a high plank.
  3. Align your body from head to heels, brace your abdomen, and keep your neck neutral while maintaining control of the dome.
  4. Lower under control by bending your elbows, keeping them angled slightly back rather than flared wide, until your chest is close to the dome.
  5. Press through your hands to return to a straight-arm plank without letting the dome shift or your hips sag. Stop if you cannot keep the setup stable.

Technique tips

  1. Master regular push-ups first. The unstable support increases the balance and control demands.
  2. Keep the movement slow. A controlled descent and press help prevent the dome from rocking.
  3. Use a shorter range if needed. Maintain a firm plank and pain-free shoulder position rather than forcing depth.
