Leg Press Calf Raise

The leg press calf raise is an ankle-extension exercise performed on a leg press machine. It primarily trains the calves while the legs remain supported by the machine. It can help develop calf strength and muscular control using adjustable external resistance.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the leg press seat and load, then sit with your back and hips firmly supported.
  2. Place the balls of both feet on the lower edge of the footplate, with your heels free to move.
  3. Start with your legs nearly straight but not forcefully locked, and brace your torso against the pads.
  4. Lower your heels in a controlled motion until you feel a comfortable calf stretch.
  5. Press through the balls of your feet to raise your heels as far as you can without shifting your position.
  6. Pause briefly at the top, then lower under control and repeat before securing the machine.

Technique tips

  1. Use a load that lets you control the full ankle range without bouncing.
  2. Keep your feet parallel and avoid letting them roll inward or outward on the footplate.
  3. Maintain contact between your back, hips, and the pads throughout each repetition.
  4. Stop the range if foot placement becomes unstable or you feel sharp discomfort.
