Macebell Side Swing

The macebell side swing is a two-handed swinging exercise that moves a macebell in a controlled arc beside and across the body. It primarily trains the shoulders while requiring the trunk to control rotational forces. It can support shoulder strength, coordination, grip control, and rotational movement control.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with your feet about shoulder-width apart and hold the macebell with both hands, keeping the weighted end clear of your body.
  2. Brace your trunk, soften your knees, and let the macebell hang under control at one side.
  3. Use your shoulders and arms to guide the macebell in a smooth arc upward and across the front of your body.
  4. Allow a controlled amount of torso rotation while keeping your spine long and your feet planted.
  5. Guide the macebell back to the starting side without letting it pull or jerk your shoulders.
  6. Complete the desired repetitions, then repeat evenly toward the other side and return the macebell to a controlled stop.

Technique tips

  1. Begin with a light macebell so you can control the long lever throughout the arc.
  2. Keep your wrists neutral and maintain a secure but not excessively tight grip.
  3. Move smoothly rather than using a sudden pull, especially when changing directions.
  4. Keep clear space around you, including above and to both sides of the macebell.
