Standing High Cable Curl

The standing high cable curl is a biceps isolation exercise performed between two high cable pulleys. Curling the handles toward the head with the upper arms held out to the sides trains the biceps through a controlled range of motion and supports arm-strength and muscle-building goals.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set two cable pulleys at about head height and attach a single handle to each pulley.
  2. Stand centered between the pulleys, take one handle in each hand, and step slightly forward to create tension.
  3. Raise your upper arms out to the sides at about shoulder height, with elbows bent slightly and palms facing inward or upward.
  4. Keeping your upper arms still, curl both handles toward the sides of your head by bending your elbows.
  5. Squeeze the biceps briefly, then return the handles slowly to the starting position without letting the stack slam.

Technique tips

  1. Use a load that lets you keep your elbows at a consistent height without leaning or swinging.
  2. Keep your chest tall and ribs controlled rather than arching your lower back to finish the curl.
  3. Control the return phase fully; do not let the cables pull your arms abruptly open.
  4. Keep both sides moving evenly and reduce the load if one shoulder rises or rotates forward.
