Standing Wide-Leg Forward Fold

Standing Wide-Leg Forward Fold is a yoga stretch performed by hinging forward from a wide stance. It primarily lengthens the hamstrings and adductors while requiring controlled hip movement and trunk positioning. It can support lower-body flexibility and body awareness.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with your feet set wide apart and your toes pointing forward or slightly outward.
  2. Place your hands on your hips, lengthen your spine, and soften your knees slightly.
  3. Hinge from your hips and fold your torso forward while keeping your back long.
  4. Place your hands on the floor or on your lower legs at a comfortable depth, keeping weight balanced through both feet.
  5. Hold the position with relaxed breathing, then press through your feet and rise with a long spine.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the movement centered at the hips rather than rounding aggressively through the lower back.
  2. Use a smaller forward fold if your hamstrings or inner thighs feel overly strained.
  3. Keep the knees softly bent if straight legs make it difficult to maintain a long spine.
  4. Let your head and neck relax rather than forcing your gaze upward.
