Arm Circles Dynamic Warmup

Dynamic warm-up arm circles are controlled circular movements of the straight arms performed while standing. They mobilize the shoulders and upper back while gently warming the surrounding muscles, supporting preparation for upper-body training and general movement.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart, knees soft, and ribs stacked over your pelvis.
  2. Extend both arms out to the sides at shoulder height, keeping the elbows relaxed but nearly straight.
  3. Make small, controlled forward circles from the shoulders without shrugging or twisting your torso.
  4. Gradually increase the circle size only as long as the movement stays smooth and pain-free.
  5. Reverse the direction and perform controlled backward circles for an even amount of time or repetitions.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the neck relaxed: avoid letting the shoulders creep toward your ears.
  2. Use a comfortable range of motion; circles should feel like a warm-up, not a forceful stretch.
  3. Move smoothly rather than quickly, and keep your trunk still to focus the motion at the shoulders.
  4. Stop or reduce the range if you feel sharp pain, pinching, or loss of control.
