Boxing

Boxing is a combat sport and conditioning activity built around punches, defensive movement, footwork, and controlled rounds. It primarily develops cardiovascular fitness, coordination, speed, and endurance while involving the shoulders, arms, core, and legs. Boxing training can support general conditioning, movement skills, and power development when practiced with appropriate coaching and protective equipment.

Instructions

  1. Prepare safely: Warm up with light movement, then put on properly fitted boxing gloves and any required protective equipment.
  2. Set your stance: Stand with one foot slightly forward, knees softly bent, hands held near the cheeks, elbows close to the ribs, and chin gently tucked.
  3. Move with balance: Step lightly while keeping your feet under control; avoid crossing the feet or standing tall and rigid.
  4. Throw punches with control: Rotate the hips and shoulders with each punch, keep the wrist straight on contact, and return the hand promptly to guard.
  5. Defend and breathe: Maintain your guard, use controlled head and body movement, and exhale briefly with each punch.
  6. Train in controlled rounds: Work at a manageable intensity on pads, a bag, or in supervised drills, resting between rounds and stopping if technique deteriorates.

Technique tips

  1. Prioritize form over force: Build speed and power only when you can keep your wrist aligned, shoulders controlled, and guard intact.
  2. Stay relaxed: Unnecessary tension tires the arms quickly; tighten briefly only at the moment of impact.
  3. Use appropriate protection: Wrap the hands when needed and use gloves and sport-specific protection appropriate to the drill.
  4. Keep contact controlled: Spar only with qualified supervision, agreed rules, and suitable protective equipment.
