Cable High Pulley Tricep Extension

The cable high pulley triceps extension is a standing cable exercise in which the elbows are straightened against resistance from a high pulley. It primarily trains the triceps, with the shoulders and upper body stabilizing the movement. It supports upper-arm strength and hypertrophy while allowing controlled, consistent resistance.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the pulley high and attach a suitable cable handle. Choose a light load before starting.
  2. Face the machine, grip the handle, and stand tall with feet about hip-width apart. Keep your chest lifted and brace your abdomen.
  3. Bring your elbows close to your sides with the forearms bent. Keep the upper arms still throughout the repetition.
  4. Exhale and extend your elbows until your arms are nearly straight, squeezing the triceps without forcefully locking the joints.
  5. Inhale as you return the handle slowly to the starting position, keeping control of the cable and avoiding torso swing.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the elbows fixed. Let elbow extension, not shoulder movement, drive the repetition.
  2. Use a load that allows a slow return; do not use momentum or lean your body over the handle.
  3. Keep wrists neutral and stop or reduce the load if the movement causes sharp joint pain.
