Cable Upper Chest Crossover

The cable upper chest crossover is a standing cable fly performed from low pulleys, bringing the handles upward and inward in front of the upper chest. It primarily trains the upper chest while the front shoulders assist and the torso stabilizes. It supports chest hypertrophy, muscular control, and balanced pressing strength.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set both cable pulleys to their lowest position and attach single handles. Select a light load, then stand centered between the pulleys in a staggered stance.
  2. Take one handle in each hand with palms facing forward or slightly upward. Step forward until the cables are taut, keep a tall torso, and brace your abdomen.
  3. Begin with your arms slightly behind your body and your elbows softly bent. Keep your chest lifted and your shoulders down rather than shrugged.
  4. Exhale as you sweep both handles upward and inward in a wide arc, bringing them together in front of your upper chest. Keep the elbow angle nearly unchanged.
  5. Briefly squeeze your chest without forcefully crossing the hands. Inhale and slowly return along the same arc until you feel a comfortable chest stretch, then repeat.

Technique tips

  1. Use controlled resistance: Choose a load that lets you keep the same gentle elbow bend throughout the set.
  2. Keep the line of pull upward: Starting from low pulleys and finishing at upper-chest height distinguishes this movement from a standard crossover.
  3. Avoid shoulder discomfort: Do not force the arms far behind the torso or shrug the shoulders; reduce the range or load if control is lost.
