Dumbbell Alternating Deltoid Raise

The alternating dumbbell front raise is a shoulder isolation exercise in which one dumbbell is lifted in front of the body at a time. It primarily targets the front deltoids, while the upper chest and core help stabilize the movement. It supports shoulder strength, muscular control, and balanced upper-body training.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with feet about hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs with palms facing your body.
  2. Brace your core and keep a soft bend in the knees. Set the shoulders down and back without leaning backward.
  3. Raise one dumbbell forward with a slight bend in the elbow until it reaches about shoulder height. Keep the wrist neutral and the torso still.
  4. Lower with control to the starting position, then repeat with the other arm. Alternate sides for the desired repetitions without swinging the weights.

Technique tips

  1. Use a light, controllable load. If you need to lean back or swing, reduce the weight.
  2. Stop near shoulder height. Raising higher is not necessary for effective shoulder work.
  3. Keep the movement smooth. Exhale as you lift and inhale as you lower.
