Dumbbell Seated Wrist Curl Palms Down

The seated dumbbell wrist curl with palms down is an isolation exercise for the forearm extensor muscles. Performed with the forearms supported on the thighs, it trains controlled wrist extension and can help build forearm strength, muscular endurance, and grip support for lifting activities.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Sit on a bench with your feet flat, holding a light dumbbell in each hand with your palms facing down.
  2. Rest your forearms across your thighs with the wrists just beyond the knees; keep the forearms still and supported.
  3. Let the dumbbells lower slowly by allowing the wrists to flex downward within a comfortable range.
  4. Raise the backs of your hands by extending the wrists, then squeeze the forearm extensors briefly without lifting the forearms. Lower with control and repeat.

Technique tips

  1. Use light resistance: the wrist extensors are small muscles, so prioritize smooth control over heavy weight.
  2. Keep your forearms pinned to the thighs; do not turn the movement into an elbow or shoulder lift.
  3. Move through a comfortable range and stop if you feel sharp pain in the wrist or elbow.
