Machine Seated Chest Press (Neutral Grip)

The machine seated chest press with a neutral grip is a horizontal pushing exercise performed while seated in a chest press machine. It primarily trains the chest, with assistance from the triceps and front deltoids. The supported position can help develop upper-body pressing strength while allowing controlled resistance.

Instructions

  1. Adjust the seat so the handles align around mid-chest level when you sit upright.
  2. Choose a manageable resistance, sit with your back against the pad, and place both feet firmly on the floor.
  3. Hold the neutral-grip handles with straight wrists and set your shoulders down and back.
  4. Press the handles forward smoothly until your arms are nearly straight without forcefully locking the elbows.
  5. Return the handles slowly until you reach a comfortable chest stretch, then repeat with control.

Technique tips

  1. Keep your head, upper back, and hips in contact with the pads rather than leaning forward to press.
  2. Use a load that lets you control the return; do not let the weight stack drop.
  3. Keep your elbows moving in a comfortable path and avoid flaring them excessively.
  4. Exhale as you press and inhale as the handles return.
