Banded Monster Walk

The banded monster walk is a lower-body walking drill performed against the resistance of a loop band. It primarily targets the glutes, especially the hip-stabilizing muscles, while the thighs help maintain a partial squat. It supports hip stability, lower-body control, and strength training preparation.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Place a loop resistance band around both legs, commonly just above the knees or around the ankles, and stand with your feet about hip-width apart.
  2. Lower into a shallow squat by bending the knees and hips; keep your chest tall, spine neutral, and feet pointing forward.
  3. Step one foot forward and slightly outward while maintaining tension in the band. Do not allow the knee to collapse inward.
  4. Follow with the other foot without letting the band go slack, then continue with controlled alternating steps for the planned distance or number of steps.
  5. Keep the pelvis level and return to standing gradually after the set. Stop if the movement causes sharp pain or you cannot maintain knee alignment.

Technique tips

  1. Keep constant tension: use steps wide enough to keep the band engaged, but do not overstride.
  2. Control knee position: track each knee in the same direction as its toes throughout the walk.
  3. Choose resistance carefully: use a lighter band if your torso rises, knees cave in, or your steps become uncontrolled.
