Cable Rope High Pulley Tricep Extension

The cable rope high-pulley triceps extension is an isolation exercise performed with a rope attachment on a high cable pulley. It primarily trains the triceps through elbow extension, while the shoulders and core help maintain a stable position. It supports triceps strength, muscle development, and pressing performance.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the cable pulley high and attach a rope handle. Select a light load first.
  2. Stand facing the machine, take one end of the rope in each hand, and step back until the cable is taut. Use a staggered stance and brace your abdomen.
  3. Bring your hands beside or slightly behind your head with your elbows bent and pointing generally forward. Keep your upper arms as still as possible.
  4. Exhale and extend your elbows until your arms are nearly straight, moving the rope ends apart slightly at the finish.
  5. Inhale and return slowly until the elbows are comfortably bent. Do not let the weight stack pull you out of position.
  6. Repeat with controlled repetitions, keeping your torso steady and stopping if you feel sharp discomfort in the elbows or shoulders.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the elbows fixed: movement should come from elbow extension rather than swinging the shoulders or torso.
  2. Control the return: use a load that lets you lower the rope slowly without losing the cable tension.
  3. Use a comfortable range: do not force the elbows deeply bent or lock them aggressively at the bottom.
  4. Brace and breathe: keep the ribs down and exhale during the extension to avoid excessive lower-back arching.
