Exercise Dome One-Arm Push-Up

The Exercise Dome One-Arm Push-Up is an advanced push-up performed with one hand supported on a balance dome. It primarily trains the chest, triceps, and shoulders while demanding substantial core bracing and shoulder stability. It supports upper-body pressing strength, unilateral control, and balance under load.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up securely: Place the exercise dome on a flat, non-slip surface and ensure it does not slide or rock unexpectedly.
  2. Take the plank position: Place one hand in the center of the dome, set the other arm behind your back or alongside your body, and extend your legs into a wide, stable plank.
  3. Brace your body: Squeeze the glutes, tighten the abdominals, and keep the head, torso, and legs in one straight line.
  4. Lower with control: Bend the supporting elbow and lower the chest toward the dome while keeping the elbow angled slightly back rather than flared far to the side.
  5. Press up: Drive through the supported hand to return to a straight-arm plank without twisting the hips or shoulders.
  6. Repeat evenly: Complete controlled repetitions, then switch sides. Stop the set if the dome shifts or you cannot maintain shoulder and trunk control.

Technique tips

  1. Prioritize stability: Use a wide foot stance and reduce the range of motion if needed to keep the hips square.
  2. Keep the dome centered: Press through the middle of the supported hand; avoid loading the edge of the dome.
  3. Control the tempo: Lower slowly and do not bounce out of the bottom position.
  4. Progress appropriately: Build one-arm push-up strength on a stable floor before adding the unstable dome.
