Leverage Decline Chest Press

The leverage decline chest press is a machine-based pressing exercise performed on a declined seat or back pad. It primarily trains the lower portion of the chest, with meaningful assistance from the triceps and front shoulders. The guided lever path supports controlled chest-strength and muscle-building training.

Instructions

  1. Adjust the machine so the handles begin around the lower-chest line and the back pad supports your full upper back.
  2. Sit with your feet firmly on the floor, keep your head against the pad, and grip the handles evenly with neutral wrists.
  3. Set your shoulder blades gently back and down, keeping your chest lifted without excessively arching your lower back.
  4. Press the handles forward in a smooth arc until your arms are nearly straight; exhale as you press and do not forcefully lock the elbows.
  5. Return slowly while inhaling until you feel a comfortable chest stretch, keeping your shoulders from rolling forward, then repeat.

Technique tips

  1. Use a controlled load. Select resistance that lets you keep the pad contact and handle path steady throughout every repetition.
  2. Keep shoulders set. Do not shrug or let the shoulders roll forward at the bottom of the movement.
  3. Control the return. Avoid allowing the weight stack or levers to pull you rapidly back into the starting position.
  4. Breathe continuously. Exhale during the press and inhale on the controlled return rather than holding your breath for extended periods.
