Cable Decline One-Arm Press

The cable decline one-arm press is a unilateral standing chest press performed from a high cable position toward the lower chest. It primarily targets the lower chest while also training the triceps and front shoulders. The movement supports chest strength, balanced side-to-side development, and pressing control.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set a cable pulley above shoulder height and attach a single handle. Select a light load to learn the movement.
  2. Stand facing away from the pulley, hold the handle in one hand, and take a staggered stance. Bring the elbow slightly behind the torso with the hand beside the upper chest.
  3. Brace the abdomen, keep the chest lifted, and keep the shoulder down and away from the ear.
  4. Exhale and press the handle forward and downward in an arc toward the lower chest, extending the arm without forcefully locking the elbow.
  5. Pause briefly, then inhale and slowly return until the chest is comfortably stretched. Complete the repetitions, then repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the torso still: Do not rotate or lean to help move the handle.
  2. Control the return: Let the cable pull the arm back slowly rather than allowing the stack to drop.
  3. Use a manageable load: Reduce resistance if the shoulder rises, the elbow flares excessively, or the range becomes painful.
