Light Cycling

Light cycling is steady, low-intensity riding performed at a comfortable pace. It primarily develops cardiovascular fitness and uses the lower-body muscles, especially the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, and calves. It can support active recovery, daily activity, aerobic endurance, and general health.

Instructions

  1. Set up the bicycle so you can reach the pedals comfortably with a slight bend in each knee at the bottom of the pedal stroke.
  2. Sit tall with relaxed shoulders, hands lightly on the handlebars, and your gaze directed ahead.
  3. Begin pedaling easily and build gradually to a smooth, conversational pace.
  4. Pedal evenly through both legs while keeping your knees tracking generally in line with your feet.
  5. Keep the effort light; you should be able to speak in full sentences without strain.
  6. Slow down gradually before stopping, and dismount only once the bicycle is stable.

Technique tips

  1. Use a relaxed grip to avoid unnecessary tension in your hands, neck, and shoulders.
  2. Choose an easy resistance that lets your pedaling remain smooth rather than forceful.
  3. Keep your hips stable on the saddle; excessive rocking usually means the resistance or pace is too high.
  4. For outdoor riding, follow local traffic rules and use appropriate visibility and protective equipment.
