Seated Rotation

Seated Rotation is a gentle seated trunk-turning stretch that improves rotational mobility through the torso. It primarily targets the obliques and muscles of the back, supporting spinal mobility, posture awareness, and warm-up or cool-down routines.

Instructions

  1. Set up: Sit tall on a stable surface with both feet flat on the floor and knees bent comfortably.
  2. Brace lightly: Lengthen through the crown of the head and gently engage the abdominal muscles without holding your breath.
  3. Rotate: Exhale and slowly turn your rib cage and shoulders to one side. Let the head follow naturally while keeping both sit bones grounded.
  4. Hold and return: Pause in a comfortable range, breathe steadily, then return to center with control and repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Move from the torso: Turn the rib cage rather than pulling aggressively with the arms or neck.
  2. Stay tall: Avoid collapsing the chest or rounding the lower back as you rotate.
  3. Use a pain-free range: Keep the movement slow and easy; reduce the range if you feel sharp discomfort.
