Passive Opening Twist

Passive Opening Twist is a gentle reclined spinal twist held with the body relaxed. It emphasizes a comfortable stretch through the obliques, lower back, chest, and hips, and can support mobility, relaxation, and recovery.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent, feet on the floor, and arms extended out at shoulder height.
  2. Bring your knees together and gently lower them to one side while keeping both shoulders as relaxed as possible on the floor.
  3. Turn your head comfortably toward the opposite hand, or keep it neutral if that feels better for your neck.
  4. Breathe slowly and hold the relaxed stretch without forcing your knees or shoulders down; return to center and repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the twist easy: only lower the knees as far as you can while breathing calmly.
  2. Relax the shoulders: do not force them to remain flat if this creates discomfort.
  3. Move slowly: come out of the position gradually, especially before switching sides.
