Treadmill Running

Treadmill running is continuous running performed on a motorized treadmill. It primarily develops cardiovascular endurance while training the lower body, especially the calves, quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes. It supports aerobic fitness, running conditioning, and calorie expenditure.

Instructions

  1. Set up the treadmill: Attach the safety clip to your clothing and begin at a slow walking speed.
  2. Warm up: Walk briskly for several minutes, then gradually increase the belt speed to a comfortable running pace.
  3. Run tall: Keep your head up, shoulders relaxed, chest open, and torso upright with a slight natural forward lean from the ankles.
  4. Use controlled strides: Land softly beneath your body, keep steps quick and light, and let your arms swing naturally by your sides.
  5. Finish gradually: Reduce to a walk for a cooldown before stopping the belt; hold the rails only when getting on, off, or regaining balance.

Technique tips

  1. Choose a manageable pace: Increase speed or incline gradually rather than making sudden changes.
  2. Avoid holding the rails: Running while gripping them can alter posture and stride.
  3. Watch your footing: Stay centered on the belt and look forward instead of down at your feet.
  4. Stop if needed: Reduce speed or use the safety stop if you feel unsteady.
