Indoor Cycling

Indoor cycling is a cardiovascular workout performed on a stationary bike, with resistance and cadence adjusted to match the session. It primarily develops aerobic endurance and leg stamina while engaging the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, and calves. It supports cardiovascular fitness, calorie expenditure, and lower-body conditioning.

Instructions

  1. Set up the bike: Adjust the saddle so your knee has a slight bend at the bottom of each pedal stroke. Set the handlebars at a comfortable height and secure your feet in the pedals.
  2. Start steadily: Sit tall with a neutral spine, relaxed shoulders, and hands resting lightly on the handlebars. Begin pedaling at an easy, smooth cadence.
  3. Control resistance: Add resistance gradually until the pedals feel controlled rather than spinning freely. Keep both feet driving smoothly through the full pedal stroke.
  4. Maintain posture: Keep your knees tracking in line with your feet and avoid locking your elbows or gripping the handlebars tightly.
  5. Finish gradually: Reduce resistance and pedal easily for several minutes before stopping. Dismount only after the pedals have come to a complete stop.

Technique tips

  1. Choose manageable resistance: Use a setting that lets you pedal smoothly without bouncing in the saddle or straining your knees.
  2. Keep the upper body relaxed: Avoid leaning heavily on the handlebars; support your posture through your trunk and hips.
  3. Build intensity gradually: Increase cadence or resistance in small steps and reduce either one if your form becomes unstable.
