Cooldown Easy Spin

A cooldown easy spin is a low-intensity ride on a stationary bike performed after harder exercise. It keeps the legs moving comfortably while gradually lowering cardiovascular effort and supporting a relaxed transition out of training. It primarily develops gentle cardiovascular conditioning and involves the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and calves.

Instructions

  1. Set up the bike so the saddle allows a slight bend in the knee at the bottom of each pedal stroke.
  2. Begin very easily with light resistance and a smooth, comfortable pedal rhythm.
  3. Relax your upper body; keep your hands light on the handlebars, shoulders down, and spine tall.
  4. Gradually reduce effort during the ride rather than adding resistance, standing, or sprinting.
  5. Finish calmly by slowing the pedals, stopping securely, and dismounting only once the pedals are still.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the resistance light. You should be able to breathe easily and speak comfortably.
  2. Pedal smoothly. Avoid abruptly stopping your legs or pushing hard through the pedals.
  3. Use a comfortable posture. Do not lean heavily on the handlebars or tense your neck and shoulders.
