Band Bicep Curl

The resistance band bicep curl is an isolation exercise in which you curl a band toward your shoulders by bending the elbows. It primarily trains the biceps, with the forearms assisting in gripping and controlling the band. It supports arm-strength and muscle-building goals with portable, adjustable resistance.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up the band: Stand in the middle of a resistance band with feet about hip-width apart. Hold one end in each hand with palms facing forward and arms straight by your sides.
  2. Create suitable tension: Adjust foot placement or hand position so the band has light tension at the bottom without forcing your shoulders or wrists out of position.
  3. Brace your posture: Stand tall with your chest relaxed, ribs stacked over the pelvis, knees soft, and upper arms close to your sides.
  4. Curl upward: Exhale and bend only at the elbows, bringing your hands toward the fronts of your shoulders. Keep the wrists neutral and avoid swinging the torso.
  5. Pause and squeeze: Briefly contract the biceps at the top without allowing the elbows to drift far forward.
  6. Lower with control: Inhale and slowly straighten the elbows until the arms are nearly fully extended, maintaining control of the band. Repeat for the planned repetitions.

Technique tips

  1. Use a stable anchor: Keep the middle of the band firmly under both feet so it cannot slip during the set.
  2. Keep elbows still: Let the forearms move while the upper arms remain close to the torso; avoid turning the curl into a shoulder movement.
  3. Control both directions: Do not let the band snap you down. Lower smoothly, especially as band tension decreases near the bottom.
  4. Choose manageable resistance: Use a band that allows a full, controlled range without leaning back, shrugging, or bending the wrists.
