Cable Bicep Curl Close Grip

The close-grip cable biceps curl is an isolation exercise performed from a low cable pulley using a narrow hand position. It primarily trains the biceps while the forearms assist with gripping and elbow flexion. The cable provides consistent resistance and can support biceps strength and muscle-building goals.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set a cable pulley to its lowest position and attach a short straight cable bar. Choose a light load that you can control.
  2. Face the pulley and hold the bar with an underhand, close grip; stand tall with feet about hip-width apart and arms extended.
  3. Keep your chest up, shoulders down, and elbows close to your sides. Brace your torso without leaning back.
  4. Exhale and curl the bar toward the front of your shoulders by bending only at the elbows. Squeeze the biceps briefly at the top.
  5. Inhale and slowly lower the bar until your arms are nearly straight, keeping tension and avoiding a hard elbow lockout.
  6. Repeat for controlled repetitions. Stop or reduce the load if you cannot keep your elbows and torso still.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the elbows fixed: do not let them drift forward or flare outward as you curl.
  2. Use a load that permits a slow lowering phase; swinging the torso shifts work away from the biceps.
  3. Keep wrists neutral and hold the bar securely rather than bending the wrists to pull the weight.
  4. Exhale on the curl and inhale on the return. Use a comfortable range that remains pain-free.
