Body Pump

BodyPump is a group barbell workout that combines high-repetition strength exercises for the major muscle groups. It commonly uses light-to-moderate loads and structured music-driven tracks to build muscular endurance, improve strength technique, and support overall fitness.

Instructions

  1. Set up safely: Attend with a qualified instructor when possible. Use a barbell, secure weight plates, and a stable bench or step platform; begin with light loads.
  2. Warm up: Follow the class warm-up and rehearse each movement with controlled range of motion before increasing resistance.
  3. Follow each track: Perform the instructed barbell or bodyweight movements at the prescribed tempo, keeping your feet stable and your spine neutral.
  4. Control every repetition: Lower weights smoothly, keep joints aligned, and breathe continuously rather than holding your breath.
  5. Adjust as needed: Reduce load, range of motion, or repetitions if technique changes. Return plates carefully and cool down at the end of class.

Technique tips

  1. Choose manageable plates: The high repetition volume can make a light load challenging; prioritize consistent form over load.
  2. Keep transitions organized: Secure collars or plates and place equipment where it cannot roll or obstruct others.
  3. Use joint-friendly range: Move only as far as you can maintain alignment and control, especially as fatigue builds.
  4. Do not chase the tempo: If you lose control, slow down or pause briefly and rejoin when ready.
