Weight Plate Squat

The weight plate squat is a loaded squat performed while holding a weight plate securely in front of the chest. It primarily trains the quadriceps and glutes while also challenging the core to keep the torso stable. It supports lower-body strength, squat technique, and muscular endurance.

Instructions

  1. Set up: Stand with feet about shoulder-width apart and toes turned slightly outward. Hold one weight plate vertically against the front of your chest with both hands.
  2. Brace: Keep your chest tall, ribs controlled, and core gently braced. Distribute pressure through the whole foot.
  3. Squat: Bend at the hips and knees together, sitting down between your feet while keeping your knees tracking in line with your toes.
  4. Stand: Descend only as far as you can maintain a neutral back and stable feet, then push through the floor to return to standing. Keep the plate close to your chest throughout.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the plate close: Holding it away from the body can pull you forward and make the movement harder to control.
  2. Control the knees: Do not let them collapse inward; reduce depth or load if you cannot keep them aligned with your toes.
  3. Use a manageable load: Move smoothly and stop the set if you lose your back position or foot pressure.
