Bench Quad Stretch Supine

The supine bench quadriceps stretch is a static stretch performed lying on a bench with one leg near the edge. Bending the hanging knee while keeping the hips controlled lengthens the quadriceps and hip-flexor area of that leg. It can support lower-body mobility and recovery work.

Instructions

  1. Set up the bench: Use a stable flat bench and lie face up with one leg positioned close to the end.
  2. Position the opposite leg: Bend the knee of the leg remaining on the bench and draw it gently toward your chest to help keep your low back neutral.
  3. Lower the stretching leg: Let the other thigh extend off the end of the bench while keeping your pelvis level.
  4. Bend the hanging knee: Reach for the ankle or lower leg and gently bend the knee until you feel a mild stretch through the front of the thigh.
  5. Hold and switch: Breathe steadily, hold without bouncing, then release slowly and repeat on the other side.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the pelvis level: Do not let the stretching-side hip rotate or lift from the bench.
  2. Use gentle tension: Stretch to mild or moderate tension, not sharp pain or knee discomfort.
  3. Avoid arching: Keep the opposite knee drawn in only as far as needed to prevent excessive low-back arching.
  4. Move slowly: Enter and leave the position with control; do not bounce the knee.
