Box Jump Multiple Response

The box jump is a plyometric exercise in which you jump from the floor onto a stable raised platform. It primarily develops quadriceps, glutes, calves, explosive leg power, coordination, and controlled landing mechanics. It supports power, athletic performance, and lower-body conditioning.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up a stable box on a non-slip surface. Choose a height that you can reach without tucking your knees excessively or losing landing control.
  2. Stand facing the box with feet about hip-width apart, arms relaxed, and your torso tall.
  3. Prepare the jump by hinging slightly at the hips and bending the knees. Swing your arms back while keeping your knees aligned with your toes.
  4. Drive through the floor and swing the arms forward to jump onto the center of the box. Land softly on both feet with bent knees and hips.
  5. Stand fully upright on the box, then step down one foot at a time and reset before the next repetition. Do not jump down unless that variation is specifically intended and appropriate.

Technique tips

  1. Prioritize landing quality over box height. You should land quietly, balanced, and with your whole foot on the box.
  2. Keep the knees tracking in the same direction as the toes; avoid letting them collapse inward.
  3. Use a lower box if you need to pull your knees high to clear it or cannot stand up under control after landing.
