Plyometric Lateral Hops

Plyometric lateral hops are explosive side-to-side jumps performed over a line or a small clear marker. They primarily train the quadriceps, calves, and glutes while developing lateral power, coordination, and landing control. This exercise can support athletic movement, agility, and lower-body conditioning.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up on a flat, non-slip surface with a line or small clear marker in front of you. Stand tall with feet about hip-width apart.
  2. Prepare to jump by bending your hips, knees, and ankles slightly. Keep your chest lifted, brace your torso, and let your arms move naturally for balance.
  3. Jump sideways explosively over the line, pushing through both feet and swinging your arms in the direction of travel. Keep your knees aligned with your toes.
  4. Land softly on both feet with bent knees and hips, absorbing the impact quietly. Maintain control without allowing the knees to collapse inward.
  5. Rebound or reset and jump back over the line to the other side. Use a controlled rhythm and stop the set if landing quality deteriorates.

Technique tips

  1. Prioritize landing quality. Land quietly with hips and knees flexed before trying to jump farther or faster.
  2. Keep the knees tracking outward. Do not let them collapse inward during takeoff or landing.
  3. Use an appropriate height. Start by hopping over a floor line; increase the distance only when every landing is controlled.
