Cable Incline Bicep Curl

The cable incline biceps curl is an isolation exercise performed on an incline bench with the cables positioned behind the body. It primarily trains the biceps through a long range of motion while the bench helps limit body momentum. It supports biceps strength, muscle development, and controlled elbow-flexion training.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up an incline bench between two low cable pulleys. Attach single handles and choose a light, controllable load.
  2. Sit back on the bench facing away from the pulleys, holding one handle in each hand with your arms extended behind and slightly out from your torso. Keep your feet firmly on the floor.
  3. Brace your torso against the bench, keep your shoulders down, and maintain neutral wrists with the palms facing forward or slightly inward.
  4. Exhale and curl the handles toward your shoulders by bending only at the elbows. Keep your upper arms as still as possible and avoid letting the shoulders roll forward.
  5. Pause briefly when the biceps are fully contracted without forcing the elbows or wrists.
  6. Inhale and lower the handles slowly until the elbows are nearly straight and the biceps are lengthened. Keep tension controlled, then repeat.

Technique tips

  1. Use a modest load. The stretched starting position can make a weight feel substantially heavier than in a standing curl.
  2. Keep the elbows behind the torso throughout the repetition; moving them forward changes the exercise and reduces the intended position.
  3. Control the lowering phase rather than allowing the cable stack to pull the arms back quickly.
  4. Stop short of discomfort in the front of the shoulder, elbow, or wrist, and reduce the load or range if needed.
