Cable Inner Chest Press

The cable inner chest press is a standing cable pressing exercise in which the handles are brought forward and together in front of the chest. It primarily trains the chest, with assistance from the triceps and front shoulders, while the cable resistance challenges control through the range of motion. It supports chest strength and muscle development.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set two cable pulleys at about chest height and attach single handles. Select a light load that you can control.
  2. Stand between the pulleys in a split stance, take one handle in each hand, and step slightly forward until the weight stack is lifted. Keep a tall torso, soft knees, and a braced abdomen.
  3. Start with your hands slightly outside chest width and elbows bent, with your upper arms roughly in line with your torso.
  4. Exhale as you press the handles forward and gently toward each other until your arms are nearly straight in front of your chest. Keep your shoulders down and avoid locking the elbows forcefully.
  5. Pause briefly while squeezing your chest, without rounding your shoulders forward.
  6. Inhale as you slowly return the handles to the start under control. Do not let the weight pull your arms backward or twist your torso.

Technique tips

  1. Use a modest load: keep the resistance light enough to prevent your torso from leaning or rotating.
  2. Keep your chest lifted: avoid shrugging or letting the shoulders roll forward at the finish.
  3. Control the return: use a smooth tempo and do not allow the stacks to slam together.
  4. Match both sides: press both handles evenly and keep the wrists neutral.
