Leverage Chest Press

The leverage chest press is a machine-based pressing exercise performed while seated, pushing the handles away from the chest. It primarily trains the chest, with the triceps and front shoulders assisting. It supports upper-body pressing strength and chest muscle development with a guided movement path.

Instructions

  1. Adjust the machine so the handles sit around mid-chest level when you are seated, and choose a manageable load.
  2. Sit with your back and head supported, feet planted on the floor, and grasp the handles with neutral, aligned wrists.
  3. Brace your abdomen, keep your chest tall and shoulder blades gently back, then press the handles forward until your arms are nearly straight.
  4. Exhale as you press; do not lock the elbows forcefully or allow the shoulders to rise toward the ears.
  5. Inhale and return the handles slowly under control until you feel a comfortable chest stretch, keeping your back against the pad.

Technique tips

  1. Set the seat height first: handles that are too high or low can make the shoulders uncomfortable.
  2. Use a smooth, controlled return; do not let the weight stack slam or pull your shoulders forward.
  3. Choose a load that lets you keep your wrists neutral and your back in contact with the pad throughout the set.
