Cable Mid Chest Crossover

The cable mid chest crossover is a standing cable isolation exercise performed with the pulleys set around shoulder height. It primarily trains the chest through horizontal arm adduction, while the front shoulders and arms assist. It can help develop chest-focused strength, muscle control, and hypertrophy.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set the pulleys to about shoulder height and attach single handles. Select a light, controllable load.
  2. Stand centered between the stacks in a staggered stance, take one handle in each hand, and step slightly forward until the cables are tensioned.
  3. Keep a tall torso, a neutral spine, and a small, fixed bend in the elbows. Begin with the arms open at shoulder level and the chest lifted.
  4. Bring the handles together in a wide arc in front of the middle of your chest. Keep the wrists neutral and gently squeeze the chest at the end position.
  5. Slowly return along the same arc until you feel a comfortable chest stretch, without letting the weights pull your shoulders excessively backward. Repeat with control.

Technique tips

  1. Keep the elbow angle nearly fixed. Bending and straightening the elbows turns the exercise into more of a press.
  2. Use a load that allows a smooth return; do not let the weight stacks slam together.
  3. Exhale as you bring the handles together and inhale during the controlled opening phase.
  4. Keep the shoulders down and avoid leaning or swinging the torso to move the load.
