Machine Inner Chest Press

The machine inner chest press is a seated pressing exercise performed on a chest press machine, using a controlled grip and movement path. It primarily trains the pectoral muscles, with assistance from the triceps and front shoulders. It supports chest strength and muscle development while offering more stability than free-weight pressing.

Instructions

  1. Adjust the machine so the handles are level with the middle of your chest and the seat supports a tall, stable posture.
  2. Sit with your feet planted, your back and head supported as designed by the machine, and your shoulder blades gently drawn back and down.
  3. Grip the handles evenly with wrists straight. Begin with the handles close to your chest without letting your shoulders roll forward.
  4. Exhale and press the handles forward in a smooth arc until your arms are nearly straight; keep a soft bend in the elbows and avoid locking them forcefully.
  5. Briefly squeeze your chest while keeping your shoulders down and your torso against the pad.
  6. Inhale and return slowly until you feel a comfortable chest stretch. Do not let the weight stack slam or allow the handles to pull your shoulders forward.

Technique tips

  1. Use a manageable load. Choose resistance that lets you control both the press and return without shifting your torso.
  2. Keep your shoulders down and back; shrugging or rounding forward reduces chest control and may irritate the shoulders.
  3. Use a comfortable range of motion. Stop before shoulder discomfort or loss of contact with the back pad occurs.
  4. Move smoothly and avoid bouncing or dropping the weight stack between repetitions.
