Dumbbell One-Arm Bicep Curl on Stability Ball

The Dumbbell One-Arm Bicep Curl on Stability Ball is a seated single-arm curl performed while balancing on a stability ball. It primarily trains the biceps while the forearm assists with gripping and the trunk works to maintain a steady posture. It supports arm-strength and muscle-building goals while adding a balance and core-control challenge.

Instructions

  1. Set up safely: Place a stability ball on a non-slip surface and sit near its center with both feet flat and about hip-width apart.
  2. Take the starting position: Hold one dumbbell at your side with the arm fully extended, palm facing forward, chest lifted, and torso tall. Keep the other hand relaxed on your thigh or lightly out to the side for balance.
  3. Curl the dumbbell: Keep your upper arm close to your torso and bend the elbow to raise the dumbbell toward the front of the shoulder. Exhale as you curl without swinging your body.
  4. Lower with control: Slowly return the dumbbell to the starting position while maintaining your balance and a neutral spine. Complete the desired repetitions, then switch arms.

Technique tips

  1. Choose stability first: Use a light dumbbell until you can remain centered on the ball without shifting or bouncing.
  2. Keep the elbow still: Avoid letting the elbow drift forward or away from the torso; the elbow bend should create the movement.
  3. Control both directions: Lift smoothly and lower more slowly rather than dropping the dumbbell.
