Dumbbell Incline Bench Hammer Curl

The dumbbell incline bench hammer curl is an isolation exercise performed seated against an incline bench with a neutral, palms-facing grip. It primarily trains the biceps and brachialis, while the forearms assist with gripping and elbow flexion. The supported position limits body swing and can help build arm strength and muscle control.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set an incline bench to a moderate angle and sit with your back and head supported, feet planted firmly on the floor.
  2. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at your sides with palms facing inward; let your arms hang straight without locking the elbows.
  3. Keep your upper arms still and curl both dumbbells toward your shoulders by bending the elbows. Maintain the neutral grip throughout.
  4. Pause briefly near the top without letting the elbows travel far forward, then lower the dumbbells slowly until the arms are extended under control.

Technique tips

  1. Choose a manageable load: avoid swinging, shrugging, or lifting your back away from the pad.
  2. Keep the wrists neutral and aligned with the forearms rather than bending them backward or forward.
  3. Control the lowering phase and use a pain-free range of motion; reduce the load if elbow or wrist discomfort occurs.
