Dumbbell Bicep Curl on Stability Ball

This exercise is a seated dumbbell curl performed while balancing on a stability ball. It primarily trains the biceps while the forearms and trunk help control the dumbbells and maintain a stable posture. It supports arm-strength and muscle-building goals while adding a moderate balance challenge.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up the ball on a firm, non-slip surface and sit tall near its center with both feet flat and about hip-width apart.
  2. Hold a dumbbell in each hand with arms by your sides, palms facing forward, shoulders relaxed, and wrists straight.
  3. Brace your trunk and curl both dumbbells toward your shoulders by bending the elbows; keep your upper arms close to your sides.
  4. Pause briefly without swinging, then lower the dumbbells slowly until the elbows are fully straight but not forcefully locked. Keep both feet grounded throughout.

Technique tips

  1. Choose a manageable load. Use dumbbells you can lift without shifting your hips or rolling the ball.
  2. Keep your ribs stacked over your pelvis and avoid leaning backward as the dumbbells rise.
  3. Do not use momentum. If your elbows drift forward or your torso moves, reduce the load or slow the repetition.
