Dumbbell One-Arm Wrist Curl Over Bench Neutral

The dumbbell one-arm wrist curl over a bench with a neutral grip is an isolation exercise performed with the forearm supported on a bench and the palm facing inward. It primarily trains the forearm muscles responsible for controlled wrist movement and grip support. It can help build forearm strength and muscular control for lifting and everyday gripping tasks.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Set up a flat bench and place a light dumbbell on the working side. Kneel or stand beside the bench so you can support one forearm comfortably.
  2. Support your forearm along the bench with the wrist just beyond its edge. Hold the dumbbell with a neutral grip, keeping the palm facing inward and the elbow still.
  3. Lower slowly by allowing the wrist to move downward only as far as you can control without discomfort. Keep the forearm firmly in contact with the bench.
  4. Curl the wrist upward in a smooth, controlled motion while maintaining the neutral hand position. Do not lift the forearm or use the shoulder to move the weight.
  5. Pause briefly at the top, then lower under control for the next repetition. Complete the set on one side before switching arms.

Technique tips

  1. Use a light load and prioritize smooth wrist movement; heavy weights can encourage unwanted elbow and shoulder movement.
  2. Keep the forearm anchored to the bench throughout each repetition to isolate the wrist and forearm.
  3. Move within a comfortable range and stop if the wrist produces sharp pain or persistent discomfort.
