Glute Stretch

The glute stretch is a static mobility exercise that lengthens the muscles of the buttocks and the surrounding hip area. It can support hip mobility, relaxation after training, and comfortable lower-body movement.

Demonstration

Instructions

  1. Start seated on the floor with both legs extended and your spine tall.
  2. Bend one knee and place that foot on the outside of the opposite thigh, keeping the other leg long or comfortably bent.
  3. Gently rotate your torso toward the bent knee and use your arm for light support; keep your shoulders relaxed.
  4. Hold the stretch in the buttock and outer hip without forcing the position, breathing slowly and evenly.
  5. Release slowly, then repeat on the other side for the same amount of time.

Technique tips

  1. Move gently: seek a mild to moderate stretch, not sharp pain, numbness, or pinching.
  2. Keep the spine long: rotate from the torso rather than rounding or pulling aggressively with the arms.
  3. Breathe continuously: let each exhale help you relax into the position without bouncing.
  4. Use a folded towel or cushion under the hips if sitting upright is uncomfortable.
