Hip Stretch

Hip Stretch is a general mobility activity that uses gentle positions and controlled movement to improve comfort and range of motion around the hips. It commonly targets the hip flexors, glutes, inner thighs, and surrounding tissues. It can support flexibility, movement preparation, and recovery after activity.

Instructions

  1. Warm up gently with a few minutes of easy walking or relaxed hip movements; do not force a cold stretch.
  2. Choose a comfortable hip-opening position, such as a seated, kneeling, or lying position, and keep your spine long and relaxed.
  3. Move slowly into the stretch until you feel mild tension around the hip, glute, inner thigh, or front of the hip; avoid sharp pain or pinching.
  4. Hold and breathe steadily, using slow, relaxed breaths while keeping the shoulders and jaw loose.
  5. Ease out gradually, return to a neutral position, and repeat on the other side when the position is unilateral.
  6. Adjust or stop if discomfort increases, numbness occurs, or you cannot maintain controlled alignment.

Technique tips

  1. Use mild tension, not pain. A useful stretch feels controlled and tolerable rather than sharp, burning, or pinching.
  2. Do not bounce. Move smoothly and allow the hips to settle gradually with relaxed breathing.
  3. Keep the pelvis controlled. Avoid excessive low-back arching or twisting to create more range of motion.
  4. Progress gradually. Increase range or hold time only when you can stay relaxed and maintain good alignment.
